We are now doing a jaws training session on the latest features in jaws 2021. It is currently in a beta state where people can download that and install it. So just 2021 the beta that came out in November. So I'm demonstrating the voice input commands that you can do for Jaws, you actually say, Sharky,
Sharky,
speak Faster, faster. And so you hear the upper and the higher tone, and then you hear a lower tone after it's done listening to. So you can jump right to the setting center. They are adding more settings all the time to control different things. I think in addition to speech rate, there are a number of things I'm trying to remember what most important ones where you can actually jump if jump right to the command search, which one of the reasons for doing the voice input is people often forget what the keystroke is to do a particular action. So you can say Sharky, command search.
Search for jaws commands dialog, search for colon edit search for colon edits, press Enter for forms mode. And let's see if we do and they're not allowed no selectable Aria controls combo. That's interesting.
I started to type in it didn't find it wrapping the top

Okay, it's kind of like a web page. Nice. So I have manuals forms mode and manual mode. So I hit space to turn on forms mode, do you see results,
punctuation and punctuation, spelling, you see,
they kind of completed as I went along. So I typed P and C. And
if I Down Arrow, I think it should get to edit punctuation settings. Plus to add in level three.
So I tabbed to get to the search results. And one of the new features is right here that I'm showing is that thing now added a new setting so that you can talk or you can switch between the punctuation modes more easily. You used to have to hold insert and hit V for quick settings and then type in punctuation go down and hit space to toggle through the different options. But now they have a new keystroke, I'm going to insert up arrow to read the current line
language that didn't work. I'll tab and Shift Tab back punctuation settings.
Let's get to it in level three, insert plus shift plus two. So if you remember altern keyboard help mode on with insert the number one people are held on. Usually two, if you hold insert two
jagi plus two changes the type technical setting,
it changes the typing echo. But now if you add the shift along with it,
shift plus log key plus to set punctuation level for the actor's voice profile.
So now what you can do, then I'm going to turn keyboard mode off with insert one again for hilltop. So you can actually do insert and shift and then I'll hit to a few times to toggle through the settings
all not sub most.
I usually prefer most. And so that's a quick way to change between punctuation. Personally, I do software programming, so it very much helps to hear all punctuation when you're in those programs. But then when typing or reading a Word document or a web page, it's much more helpful to have it set to some or most because you don't necessarily want to hear everything. What can you do?

Okay, so when I asked it what it could do, it brought me to the jaws training topics. For the new voice input feature, I'm actually going to slow speed down the speed down I think it went up lower
Slower, slower, slower
as I went through that. So if you don't remember to change the speech rate, up or down, you hold the Ctrl windows alt to the three keys usually to the left of the spacebar and then hit page down to reduce speed page up to increase speed.
So I did that a few times. So I'm going to hit f6 as it said to go to the text f6 page has eight headings and two links voice assistant heading level one voice assistant the voice assistant provides a way to interact with jaws and Windows 10 using Speech Input supported languages include English, Dutch, German, Spanish, and French ask it to be loaded with various jobs features using natural speech. This means that the same jobs action can be performed by more than one similar phrase instead of a single predefined voice command for instance. The launch settings center you could say, quote settings center quote or quote change settings. Well, unlike keyboard shortcuts, which can be hard to remember, natural voice commands are an easier way to interact with the jaws software. Using voice input to control jaws can also benefit users with certain conditions which prevent them from using the keyboard effectively. The jaws voice assistant uses your computer's internal microphone or you can talk to it using an external microphone or headset that tells a voice assistant to begin listening for a specific command. There are three options calling list of two items bullet press the key combination and search plus alt plus spacebar bullet speaker specific weight word which alerts the software to begin listening for a voice command. Similar to using an Alexa or Google Home device the wait word for jaws is quote Sharky, quotes the plus word followed by a specific jobs command such as quote Sharky listing links with the list and note colons await word is not available if you are using a Bluetooth microphone. The following tables provides voice commands used to perform specific jaws actions in many cases, the voice assistant supports additional voice commands to perform the same action to support a more natural speech pattern. voice commands for navigation and words heading level three, navigation or voice commands for general outlook navigation, heading level three.
Okay, interesting outlook, let
me see some natural voice command, short voice command, go to the calendar view calendar.
Okay, so if you want to go to the calendar view, you can say
calendar, go to the messages, view messages, go to the contacts, view contacts,
those are settings that you can or Windows you can normally get to by holding down CTRL and pressing one for the mail two for the calendar three for contacts. So you can do that directly.
Go to the tasks, new tasks, go to the notes view notes table then, okay, and these are
basically just the different switching between the panes and
recall invoice heading level three voice commands for navigating outlook messages. Okay, wrapping that up.
Okay, so that was all the lists they have there. So yes, there's different things you can do inside messages and on the web page. A lot of really cool things. I'll go over the instead of the wake word, especially if you're using a USB audio input, which for the the wake word, just the wake word, it needs to be listening all the time, but it doesn't actually do that with USB audio because the audio is typically not streaming into the computer the entire time. So that's why they have a keystroke that will also turn the voice assistant on so that's insert plus alt and spacebar.

It can because fusion has the jaws in the magnification built into it. So I believe you can do everything that you can do for the jaws voice command. You can also do through the fusion voice commands plus the other ones that are related to the magnification. Okay, one of the other main things I'll scoot move on to the next is that they've vastly improved the picture smart. Which if you don't know in 20, jaws 2020 I believe they added pictures smart, which you can tell it a picture, give it a picture. And it can send it up to Google and Microsoft and turn those places and convert it so that it will describe what the picture is. I wonder what should I use as an example? I don't think I have anything on this computer. We go to the internet and windows are

And then you hit letter P for picture smart p picture

So any of the layered keystrokes, you can use the question mark, if you don't know what your next key is supposed to be, even if you just press insert space and then question mark, it'll give you the list of the first level layered keystrokes and then I already knew I wanted to hit p for picture smart. And then it brought up the,
the viewer, the jaws viewer, with other lists of things I can do now for picture smart specific, acquire and describe an image from a scanner or read them scientific cameras, such as using the LED Ray.
So if I had a pearl, which I don't or scanner, if you after doing insert space, and then P, if you hit a you can acquire a picture and it'll describe it
from Windows Explorer, you can describe any image file using the letter F.
If you hit F while you're on a graphics related file in Windows Explorer, it'll then convert it
I think from a computer screen or application you can destroy the control with a legacy C is for a control I also believe that's for the image on the clipboard can be described using the letter B B for clipboard an image can be described by saving it as a quote pictures Mark quote directory and your users will get four results from all available services add to the shift key to any of the above keystrokes to get four is that right

So how you can use this as if you're on Facebook, for instance, using jaws and somebody posted a picture and says hey, we're on vacation and you really don't know where they are. You can try this feature and it might say oh they're on a beach they're at the Washington Monument they're at the Eiffel Tower and by reading through this information you'll learn more about what's in the picture

So there you can actually send the document to picture smart but when it's a manual like this, it really it would also do OCR, but it probably would add a lot of extra stuff convenient
OCR to work with fusion BI.
So the new feature that they give you is now that you can convert it directly to a Word document. It typically created it in the jaws text viewer. And if you tried to then copy it and put it into a Word document, sometimes the formatting would get messed up, and lenient OCR with fusion. Oh, so the old one is still here convenient OCR with fusion or if you're just running Jaws, it'll say with jaws. So you can actually choose directly whether you want to go from one to the other. If you just use the regular one enter leaving mail show there'll be a link that you can then open it in

You do have to have Microsoft Office installed on your computer to be able to use the conversion to word because it uses the features that get installed when you install it. Or when you install the office suite to do the Word docs and word edit.

So I page down a few times because there are pictures initially in those OCR a little bit better and Word document format, but jumped down. So it's in as you see now in normal OCR, you don't necessarily get bulleted lists, but this because it's in Word, you maintain that formatting that was in the original PDF level zero,

So it actually has a nesting of a, it has a list at level zero is the normal text. And then it had a bulleted list with different color choices. So it's actually pretty cool. or have any questions. But one thing that I discovered today when having some outlook issues with jaws is that when i when i unloaded jaws and then turn it back on, there was a jealous 2021 update. And that 2021 update actually, in the short period of time that I played with it before coming in here appeared to not only fix some of the issues I was having an outlook but it also made it much more responsive in Excel. I just wanted to share that with you.
Right. So thank you. Yeah, they definitely made a lot of bug fixes lately in the 2021 data. They had a number of issues as you mentioned in Outlook, where they were jaws was sometimes reading too much information. are not enough information. So they kind of trim that up, give you choices about whether when you open an outlook message, whether you want it to read the from and the two, or you can, I think the default now is it'll jump right to the text. And it used to have an issue where you would open a message and if you had read it before, or if you had read a message that was earlier in that conversation, it would jump you down to where you were. So you would not notice that there was new information up at the top. So one of the things they just fixed also was, was that it would now start at the top. So if people are interested in doing this, because I think as much feedback as we can give the sparrow the makers of jaws the more information that we can hand to them, the better. Let me just take you quickly to where you can download a dialogue. So I'm going to just go to the I'll take you the more you can get to it through Jaws, but this is just one way to do it. I think they worked on OCR improvements to the quality, but the main OCR change was that you can open it directly in Word rather than in the viewer so that you can immediately create a Word document out of it. It'll read the title of the slides, but not the text on them. No, unfortunately, I haven't done that. Okay, so any other questions? Let's see if there was anything else that was I'll do a quick review. One thing that that confuses people a lot is that there are a lot of different jobs cursors. So I'll do a rundown on that. So when you're editing a document, and you have an insertion point, that's called the PC cursor, and you're limited to wherever you are in like a Word document wherever you're typing. And the PC cursor also handles when you're going through menus. Now a virtual cursor, the Virtual PC will automatically occur when you are in a web document, there's not truly an insert pointer, but you're actually moving around as if there was an insertion point. So it's the virtual cursor. And there is now what used to be called the, the jaws cursor, which, instead of being equivalent to the text insertion point, it's actually the mouse cursor. In some applications when you hit the numpad minus, which is an upper right hand corner of the numeric keypad. Or if you're in desktop mode, it's capslock p, then it'll sometimes it'll say jaws mode, depending on how the program is that you're working within, is oriented. Sometimes jaws can get the information the old fashioned way, in which case, you can use the jaws cursor to move the mouse around. But other times you'll hear scan cursor. And what that means is that jaws couldn't detect any information in the normal way. So it has to use the UI, a user interface accessibility features to get data. And so it'll switch into the jaws curve into the sorry, into the jaws scan cursor. So one example of that is the calculator. Let me bring that up. If I hit the Windows as
search box edit in Windows s to search, and then I'll do a command l see calculator app, press Enter calculator, standard calculator mode display is zero.
So when you're in the regular mode,
open history flyout button memory,
you can tab around, but you can't arrow around. So you're basically tabbing between the controls. And from what I've heard, it's not really a logical format. But if you if you hit the the number numpad minus

jaws will activate the scan cursor and then memory yet but you can actually use the arrow keys and it will actually move around based on how the controls are laid out on the screen. So I'm going to hit left arrow.
And actually within memories of direct button, memory store button. The memory Add button memory remember memories of drag button, subtract memory store, open memory, okay, so that's interesting, up and down arrow will move between controls, but it's supposed to let you move around by colons in memory flight memory store button, display controls for sent button. and right arrow is now moving me between controls but in certain controls that actually moves between letters in the words which is kind

Okay, so now I'm in the number pad. And actually, I can move around as if it's an eight button, seven buttons. So I'm moving left and now I'm hitting down four
buttons, one button, positive negative button, plus or minus number pad zero button. So you can actually move when you're in the scan cursor, you can kind of move around how it's visually oriented decimal separator button standard operators equals button. plus plus, so I'm just hitting the minus button multiplied by the light by button.
And what the scan cursor in the jaws cursor can do that, that the PC and Virtual PC cursors can't do is they can't go outside of the controls that you can tap into the things that are in the tab control. But with the jaws cursor you can and scan cursor. So you should be able to actually get up to the Display area, which you can never get to if you just hover around display controls backs.

Okay, well, it's, it's typically it's just a new feature that in Windows 10, you'll run into some time. So that was just a little brief rundown. I know when I did the just trainings during a couple months ago, that was something that was often a point of confusion.
